Not that long ago Matt Jones of BERG fame came up with a really lovely idea! In response to the keep calm and carry on posters from the Second World War that had become so popular again he decided that a more positive statement was needed!
“It occurred to me that this was exactly the wrong sentiment for this age …
I started sketching on the paper a contrary statement, where stiff upper lip was replaced by a stiff upper arm from soldering…”
The Get Excited and Make Things poster was born.
With this in mind I’d like to open up the wallpaper submissions process for the next release of Ubuntu, Oneiric Ocelot! The Flickr group for submissions is now open and can be found at http://www.flickr.com/groups/oneiric-wallpaper-submissions/ and just like last time we’re accepting both photos and rendered/ illustrated wallpapers.
For guidance on what formats are best to submit can I suggest you look at the excellent wiki page on the subject which can be found on the Ubuntu wiki at – wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Documentation/Backgrounds.
We recommend a minimum resolution of 2560 x 1600 and templates for GIMP can be found on the wiki page.
In order for us to make the UI freeze we need just over a week to review and shortlist entries so we will be closing the group for entries on the 11th August at 12pm UK time. From there as with previous cycles the contributors whose images were selected last time will be invited to select a shortlist that will make it into Ubuntu 11.10.
So what are you waiting for?! Get excited and make things!! I am!

What about those of us that don’t use/want to use flickr?
Is there a picasa option or even an email address to send our submissions to?
James: yes, you can contact Iain Farrell directly and arrange another method to send your contribution.
It seems that Flickr limits image size to 1024 by 640 for free accounts :/
For the purpose of the submission process the free Flickr account is acceptable. If your submission is selected for inclusion you will be contacted for an image with the desired dimensions.
Hey great, I thing I have a nice picture
Before I forget, what about a new Plymouth Splash Screen?
I have a suggestion for one and I think that even I could create it…
The Dots are staying but as a background, we add an ocelot, the only other thing I don’t know is if the colour will stay purple.
So what does Canoncial thing about it?
by the way, Natty was a great Release
Greez from germany
Hello Christian and greetings to Germany too. For the Plymouth boot screen, the best thing is to try it and see! It’s basically the same process as for any other contribution to Ubuntu: experiment, refine it, file a patch (or a new image in this case) and other developers and people in the Ubuntu community will hopefully be able to add guidance. If you’re unsure where to put it, file it against launchpad.net/ubuntu-branding In general the Plymouth boot-screen is shown for less and less time for each release as a general trend towards even faster booting happens. Colours can be found in the Ubuntu Design Tool-kit; or directly on pages 47 to 53 of the Ubuntu Brand Guidelines (11 MB PDF) and dots on pages 61/62. Marcus Haslam (Ubuntu Brand Lead) should be able to review any ideas and offer guidance.
For the main graphical wallpaper contest, this is actually judged by the previous winners from six months earlier so those are the people to impress.
Thanks for your answer, I already have a kind of Idea, using this wallpaper

Or maybe I just contact the creator just for the Orange ocelot, my next idea was :
Oneric Ocelot, if we translate it, the plymouth screen should look well “dreamy”, what about tiny popping up on the screen ?
Hi!
I submitted some photos but the maximum size is 1024×640 and not 2560×1600. I have a question: how you’ll get the original sizes of the photos?
Thanks.
Hello Milkway. If the previous winners of the contest (the judges) select one of your wallpapers, then Iain Farrell will get in touch at the end to get the highest-quality originals or vectors that are available.
The images do have to be compressed to fit on the install CD, but the final quality is much better by starting with the originals and only having a single additional compression step where possible.
I have added my photos to Flickr but can not see them in the group could someone email me to confirm my 4 photos are there, username is TennantS thanks!
Omfg. This looks like it’s weirttn by someone who has never programmed C before. What kind of application did you find this in?
