Amélie Bonet at Dalton Maag has drawn up redesigns for a number of the Cyrillic and Serbian/Balkans characters that weren’t as clear, or ideal as they could have been. If you use these characters, please help give feedback about whether the suggested improvements are sufficient, or whether they could be improved further. For Greek, there is also a proposed fix to monospace Gamma:

Many appreciations to those who reported the original bugs about the Ubuntu Font Family. We have tried to follow up to the original reports at Blog Russia and at Opennet.ru (thank you to Александр Вульфсон and also all those on the #ubuntu-rs IRC channel.
Please comment directly on the bug reports. You can use your own language if it is easier (eg. Russian, Serbian, English, Greek…). Заранее спасибо!

I prefer the previous versions of «Г» very much, it is cool modern approach.
Are we ever gonna get a Japanese version of this font?

Japanese would be nice, at least a Kana subset for starters.
Japanese uses different writing systems, for example there are Kanji (about 50 000 chars) and Kana (about 100), where the Kanji represent meanings while the Kana are more like western letters, but representing syllables. Kana are divided by two subsets: Hiragana and Katakana, where Hiragana is the most used part of.
I think if somebody, somebody who knows what he is doing, starts with Hiragana it would make it useable to a certain degree (you are able to write japanese just by using Hiragana, thats what children learn first) and it would give the community a resason and also some guidance to start working on the rest.
But at the moment, while there are still too many degrees of freedom, it makes not much sense for ‘us’ even start trying. Maybe it would be useful to have something like a styleguide ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-font-family-sources/+bug/823348 ) that it actualy would make any sense for ‘other people’ to start working on it. At the moment ‘somebody’ could easily put in random designed characters, giving it basic kana support – but i think thats worse than falling back to any font already supporting japanese on your system
Writing that, I have to say I am not a font desiner, nor that I actualy would have the time for or persistence of completing a whole subset, but at some point I wanted to try a few characters just for fun.
