PLEASE consider making the drop down applications menu optional alongside the Unity launcher. I really value being able to select my application from the intelligent grouping system, and have finally defected to the KDE interface for this reason.
Thank you for listening

I have also missed the application categories at times… E.g., if I want to choose a game to play, I no longer know how to find a list of my installed games. But I feel that this functionality can be added to the Unity menu itself, rather than adding another menu.
My main annoyance with Unity menu: when I have a fullscreen browser and I move my mouse to the “back” button, I almost always get too close to the autohide Unity bar, which pops out and stops me pressing “back”. very annoying. I can’t really think of a good way of preventing this. Maybe give an option to not “expand” the panel (have it smaller and in the centre of the screen edge like docky). Or maybe removing autohide and only displaying the Unity bar when the Super key is pressed. At the very least, add a “hide” button to the Unity bar to make it disappear for a few seconds.
Thanks!

please put a option for the sidebar so that we can customize it beacus it is really boring that we are not able to do that. i used ubuntu because it was fun to install themes and and change every thing so that it would suit my self. (downgraded from 11.10 to ubuntu 10.04.)

I thought that one of the main reasons for putting the Unity menu bar at the side and not at the bottom was to increase visual screen size?! But is it really necessary to put it on the side if it has a auto-hide – why not allow the user to put it wherever THEY want it?
With two or more screen (consider 9 screen) where would a user put the menu? If its at any edge that would require a lot of mouse movement to get to it.
A floating menu …
The sensible thing would be to be able to call up a menu where the mouse pointer currently is. Perhaps something like a circular / radial menu, showing both the running applications and shortcuts to frequently used applications. (the center could be date, clock etc)

I kind of agree with this but I think that can come from the already existing lenses on the Dash Home. I think the default one should be the applications lens as the favourites one is redundant. It should also have the filters expanded by default and on the left side of the window so that the natural use would be click dash home, select filter, select app in a left to right motion which seems more intuitive without giving up the nice looks Ubuntu has brought to Linux. It also needs to hid the commonly used and downloadable filters as they take up space giving a megre one line for installed apps. The install apps should be expanded so users can just explore these. This would bring it back in line with the older menu system and would cut down the stupid amount of clicks needed to launch an app.
